About Friends in Action
Friends in Action is a non-profit, community-based organization with a mission to empower older adults and people living with disabilities to thrive and to live independently, with dignity and a strong quality of life. With the help of volunteers, Friends in Action serves the community through a variety of programs: transportation, the Senior Center, food security, and home services.
Friends in Action relies on the generous assistance of our donors and sponsors to operate our programs. We hope you’ll consider becoming participating in this event to ensure the success of our programs. Our Walk/Run Event will take place on June 6, 2026 at Knowlton Park. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy one of the prettiest parts of Ellsworth, get a little exercise, visit with old friends and make new ones while helping the senior or disabled residents of Hancock County gain access to healthcare, fight food insecurity, avoid isolation and loneliness, and continue to live independently for as long as they are physically able.
About the Walk/Run-a-thon
The event will be a 5K (3.1 miles). In order to give you distance options, there will be three turn around points clearly marked at a half mile, 1 mile, and 1.55 miles (5K). The course will start at Knowlton Park, go down to Shore Road, north toward Dorr’s Market to the 5K turn around point. You can go at your own pace and distance. Make it a casual stroll, a brisk walk, or a run if you are up to it.
Immediately prior to the start of the event, there will be a raffle for some great prizes and family friendly activities. All registrants will be entered automatically in the door prize raffle. There will be water and healthy snacks for everyone at the finish and a treat for children under 12.
The first 50 registrants will receive a fabulous Friends in Action T-Shirt proudly displaying the Friends in Action logo as well as the logos of our Major Sponsors. Registration on the day of the event will open at 8:00 am at the pergola at Knowlton Park.
